Tom Yum (ต้มยำ) is a fragrant Thai soup known for its distinctive balance of hot, sour and savoury flavours.

Our Tom Yum Recipe Kit combines Lobo Tom Yum Paste with the fresh Thai aromatics that give the soup extra fragrance and brightness. The paste creates a convenient seasoned base, while fresh lemongrass, galangal and makrut lime leaves add their familiar citrusy, peppery aroma.

Fresh lime provides a sharper finish when squeezed into the soup just before serving, while the chillies allow you to adjust the heat to your taste.

How many portions does it make?

The included Lobo Tom Yum Paste makes approximately two servings when prepared with around 480ml of water or light stock.

The fresh aromatics are supplied in their standard retail portions, so you may have some left for another soup, curry or Thai dish.

What else will I need?

Add approximately 200g of prawns, chicken, tofu or another preferred protein, together with around 100g of mushrooms. Straw mushrooms, oyster mushrooms and button mushrooms all work well.

You may also wish to add fish sauce or salt to taste. Fresh coriander and tomatoes are optional additions.

Lightly bruise the lemongrass, slice the galangal and tear the makrut lime leaves to help release their aroma. Simmer them in the water or stock until fragrant, then stir in the Tom Yum Paste before adding the mushrooms and your chosen protein.

Cook until everything is ready, then remove the soup from the heat and add fresh lime juice. Add the chillies gradually if you prefer to control the spice level. The lemongrass, galangal and lime leaves are mainly used to flavour the broth and do not need to be eaten.

Fresh produce arrives every Monday, and kits containing fresh ingredients are dispatched shortly after arrival.

Storage: Keep the fresh ingredients refrigerated and follow the storage instructions on the Lobo Tom Yum Paste.
